“RISE ROCK N’ SHINE” - IDOBI (EP REVIEW)

Athena is taking her personal pain and transforming it into power with killer dream-pop tracks. Dreamland is an EP full of peculiar, beautiful songs that you’ll love if you’ve been bopping along to Halsey the past few years. We believe Athena might actually be a goddess because her sultry pop beats are taking us to a whole other world.

"COUNT ME IN" SINGLE REVIEW - EQ MUSIC BLOG

"Count Me In" by Athena is a song that quietly gets under your skin. The song has a soul yet demonstrates music can be soft as well as gutsy.

In further explanation of what is going on here, I’m asking you, readers, to look on this project as an escapist role play through music scenario. A continuation of the same pop family tree lineage descending from icon alter-ego inventor David Bowie since Athena comments, “I never really stopped playing pretend.” I have to say I can’t think of anybody bigger to take influence from while beginning to send her own pop career into orbit.

"HUMAN" SINGLE REVIEW - IMPERFECT FIFTH

Nashville-based dream pop singer/songwriter Athena released a brand new single titled “HUMAN” on Friday, and we are absolutely smitten. Her sultry vocals hit home from the very beginning, opening the song with a soft hum before developing into a layered gem of a track. As she begs you to let her underneath your skin, you begin to feel the rhythm pick up, as you get lost in dreamlike trance.

DO615 QUESTIONS FEATURING ATHENA

Nashville’s alt-pop alien Athena makes a stunning debut with “MONSTER” premiering exclusively with yours truly before it hits the platforms tomorrow.

A week from today, Athena will make her live debut at Pøpsquad presents: Pop Monster. Check out what Athena has planned for transforming The East Room into an immersive dreamland and see what she had to say about being stranded on earth after the jump!

imperfect fifth - pop monster show review

Athena [gave] a powerhouse performance that you’d never know was her debut effort. She was right at home in front of an audience, prowling the stage in silver spandex like a modern day Xenon, an early 2000s fever dream kicking through pink fog clouds in Adidas stripes. Athena approached her performance with a fierce vulnerability, swinging from charm to rage to melancholy in a way that always felt authentic.

NO COUNTRY FOR NEW NASHVILLE

As you know, we’re pretty obsessed with Nashville’s flourishing, creative, and ever-growing pop scene, which, over just a few short years, has grown into one of the most relevant, communal, and noteworthy collections of pop artists in the nation. Tonight, April 26, our friends and fellow pop purveyors at Pøpsquad are hosting an especially stacked sampling of local (and national) talent at The East Room, where buzzy local up and comer Athena is making her stylish, dark alt pop debut (at least under this moniker) with fantastic single “MONSTER” ahead of her EP Dreamland.
